Winter break

Hello everybody, how are you?

Hope you had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas time and a great New Year’s Eve. My four weeks of holiday were fantastic. I enjoyed some time together with my family and friends. Over Christmas time, we were at home in Germany and made some nice trips to different cities such as Munich and Stuttgart to buy the last-minute Christmas presents but also to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Christmas markets. It was very nice to calm down a bit after this exciting last semester.

Between Christmas and New Years Eve I had a class reunion of my “Abitur” class from 2008 in Stuttgart. I was very excited, because some of them I haven’t seen in over 3 years. We all met in a restaurant in Stuttgart and went for a drink afterwards in a cosy bar. It was so fantastic to get to know what all the former classmates and friends are doing and how they are proceeding within their career path. Just some days later, New Years Eve was just around the corner.

I celebrated New Years Eve in Frankfurt this year with my best friends. It was a great idea, because the fireworks were just amazing on the famous bridge crossing the river “Main”.

Back home, my family and I decided to make a one- week holiday to the Alps together with close friends of my parents. I enjoyed spending some time with them in a wonderful snowscape.

Now, as we already have passed the second week of January, the time of leaving home is coming closer. My last semester in the LRG program starts on Monday, the 16th January. Within my last days at home, I went to see my friends again to say goodbye. I am looking forward to start in Bulle again to finalize my dissertation but also to start looking for a great job opportunities for after my studies at Glion.

I will keep you updated about the first weeks in my new and last semester in Bulle. Wish you all a great and successful start in 2012 and still all the best!

Ciao, Ann-katrin

Final Exams done – Semester OVER!

Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately, it’s been a long time since I wrote my last blog. We had very busy weeks recently because of the preparation for our final exams.

During this last week we had to pass four final exams in our major subjects. It began on Monday with Conference and Event Management. The subject was dealing a lot with the current development of conference and convention management and what skills event managers need to succeed in planning and organizing events. On Tuesday, we had one day off. However, the class needed this day to prepare and study for the upcoming three exams on the following days.

On Wednesday, we had our Marketing Exam. As we developed a marketing campaign as a project throughout the semester, the exam primarily focused on marketing communications and the importance of public relations.

As I really like Marketing, I enjoyed researching current developments to use this information in the exam. As the week came to an end, the exam got more and more challenging.

On Thursday, it was the turn of the Revenue Management exam. This subject was one of the most complex ones within this semester. Difficult pricing strategies as well as various mathematical forecasting methods were the essence of this subject. However, through intensive independent studies we were able to cope with the exam and the teacher supported us well.

Now, after passing three exams within one week, everybody was a exhausted and we all had slept very little throughout the past days. Nevertheless, we had to finalize our semester with the last exam. As part of our integrated business game, we had to consult a hotel, analysing the hotel strategy and performance and making suggestions for future.
The creation of our business plan earlier in the semester helped us to prepare for the final exam.

In the end, all exams went well and the class is now released and looking forward to our holiday. We have now finished our semester and all classmates and myself are leaving the campus within the next days. The holidays are more or less 4 weeks long and we then will start our last semester in our LRG program on the 16th January 2012.

Until then I wish you all the best, relaxing Christmas days and a successful start in the New Year 2012.

See you all soon back in Bulle!

All the best, Ann-katrin ;)

Farewell and Happy Holidays!

Hey Everyone,

It is done!!! Finals are over!!! All went very well. I am very Haaapppyyy and it’s finally time for a break and a bit of relaxation.

This will be one of my last Blog Posts I will send to you. I am giving/leaving my position as E-Ambassador and giving the opportunity to another person, who will for sure report and up-date you with the latest information. As my final semester is coming up, the workload in regards to the Dissertation is quite heavy. Wanting to write as much as possible and to keep you up-dated makes it difficult for me to deliver constant and thorough Blog-Posts. However, I am very sure that whoever will be replacing my position will do a fantastic job!

It feels very good to have accomplished the final weeks. The build up of stress, tension and anxiety made us all tired. Now it is time to “re-charge” our batteries and take it “easy” for a bit of time.

I am wishing you a very merry Christmas to come. Enjoy it with your loved ones and I am very much looking forward reading further Blog-Posts from the LRG and Glion Team. I hope you have enjoyed the last 6 months with me. I hope you were able to get an insight of how our student life is. Should you have any further questions – I am always reachable. Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime.

OF COURSE I am wishing you all a great new start in 2012. All the best of luck! Have a great one and enjoy to the fullest!

Business plan over, holiday coming soon…

Hello everyone, how are you?

As I mentioned in the previous blog, we had a lot of projects to do within the past days. However, on Tuesday, 21th September, we handed in our major project, the business plan. As it was a group work, some groups worked until last minute to get ready and to finally print the business plan. Especially during the past weekend, we had group meetings throughout the day and worked at night on our individual group parts to finish all the different section of the business plan.

Now, there is only one project left in revenue maximization, which is on an individual basis and thus less challenging than the big group project.

This is now already our last week of study, before the mid term break starts on Friday the 30th September. All students in our class are so looking forward to have one week of holiday.

Some of us are planning to do some city trips during the break. However, the majority of the LRG students are going home to spend some time with the family and friends.
I am looking forward to write you about our holiday experience.
Until then, I wish you a great and productive time!

Greetings from Switzerland,

Ann-katrin

Back to School

Hello everyone!

I am finally back to Bulle after two great months of vacation. After a visit to my parents in Singapore and a week with my friends in Dusseldorf, I spent some time in Italy visiting Rome and sailing around the Amalfi Coast. I had an amazing time discovering one of Europe’s most famous capitals and enjoying the food and atmosphere of the city.

While sailing, I had the opportunity to stop by many Italian villages and islands, experiencing local food and wines, participating in regattas and meeting interesting people.  After Italy, I spent one week in Germany with my family and drove to Switzerland. After two months, it was almost strange to come back to peaceful Bulle. As I rent my own apartment, I had very few things to unpack so I had time to go to the Coop (a Swiss supermarket) for some last-minute food shopping and to enjoy a dinner with my parents at the Museum Restaurant in Montreux.

I was very happy returning to school for check in, as I could meet all my friends that I did not see during the summer as well as the students returning from the exchange semester. We had a welcome meeting and the school organized a welcome drink for everyone at a local bar, Memphis, the same evening. We all had a lot to talk about.

The first day of class was interesting, as we attended a seminar on research methods and got to know in detail the timeline for our final undergraduate dissertation. In the month to come, we will have very little classroom time, as we are supposed to work on our dissertation proposal.

By the end of the month, the proposal should be fully written, and approved by our tutor. It will be my first dissertation and I am quite excited to get started. I am still investigating the different topics that I am interested in. I will keep you updated very soon!

8 weeks Summer Holiday!!!

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all fine. Did you already have summer holiday or are you planning to spend your vacation at a special holiday resort?

As I posted in the last blog, our LRG class had 8 weeks of holiday between the last and the upcoming semester. At the end of May, when the last days of the semester were over, I primarily drove by car back home to Stuttgart, Germany. I was so happy to see my family and to meet all my friends in Stuttgart and Munich. I took the first weeks to settle in at home and to relax after the stressful weeks of learning and writing exams. Enjoying some hot summer days, I organized some small getaways to Munich and Austria to meet some old friends who are working or studying there. It was great to see them again and to have an exciting time together.

At the end of June I went with my family to Crete for about 2 weeks. It was a fantastic relaxing summer holiday where we enjoyed the comfort and amenities of a unique and luxurious hotel resort that was located closely to the seacoast of Crete. My brother and I worked out a lot, participated in daily activity programs and guided island tours. Overall, the holiday was great for the whole family and we enjoyed the time together very much.
Back in Germany, some friends and myself drove to Freiburg that is located in the Black Forest where an amazing Music Festival took place – Sea of Love 2011. It was organized over three days and nights and the 4 big stages where located close to a regional lake which created a fantastic atmosphere. During the 3 days, the weather was very good, so we could enjoy the festival to the full. National and international DJ’s as well as a range of different live acts performed throughout the 3 days. In total, the festival was an amazing experience and we all had so much fun.

In the last week of July before the next semester starts, I had a lot of appointments and organized all necessary stuff I need for the next semester. On the last weekend my friends and I are planning to make a big summer party at home to enjoy the remaining time together. All in all, it was a great holiday for me to spend some time with the family and to get in touch with my friends. Now, I am looking forward to seeing all my classmates again to get to know how they enjoyed their holidays. I am excited to tell you in the next blog how the first weeks started in our new semester.
Until then, I wish you all a great summer time!

Summer holiday

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the long delay, I travelled a lot these past days. I am back from Singapore, spending a few days in Germany. It is rainy and cold over here, which really changes from Singapore. In the coming days, I will be visiting some of my good friends in Dusseldorf. I am looking forward to spending some time with them, as we all study in different parts of the world. The week after, I will be flying to Italy to meet my girlfriend and I will spend two weeks between Roma and the Amalfi Coast. I am very much looking forward to that.

The next semester still seems far ahead, as we have one more month of vacation. I am enjoying every minute of it, as I know that soon enough, the final dissertation will occupy my mind for no less than a year. I am happy to start this new chapter of my life and to get the opportunity to spend some time on research. I am sure that the next semesters will be challenging and interesting.

Meanwhile, I have my hands full with packing and travelling. I will catch up with you very soon! For those of you who will be starting your preparatory year in August and anyone else interested, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the program or the student life. I wish you all great vacations!
